About

Our Strong Foundation

One of the oldest companies in the Elizabethtown area, Jenkins-Essex is a fourth-generation family owned and managed business dating back to 1904. That’s when Neff Jenkins and William Essex, whose heirs later sold their interests to the Jenkins family, founded the company as a lumber mill located in downtown Elizabethtown. They soon expanded their offerings, not only opening a full building supply store, but also building homes.

In those early days, Jenkins-Essex quickly gained a reputation for integrity, hard work and knowledge – principles our company leadership and employees have proudly upheld for more than a century.

It was in the 1960s that Jenkins-Essex started growing its commercial and industrial business. Since then, we’ve managed the construction of many of the region’s landmark buildings. In fact, in our home county, Hardin County, it would be difficult to find a resident who has not crossed the threshold of a Jenkins-Essex building.

Through the generations, our purpose has always been to build a superior product at a fair price. After more than 100 years, we consider it tradition.

Our Customer Commitment

We appreciate the unique needs and expectations of each of our clients. We are committed to working as partners with every client to ensure that a quality product, that satisfies both functional and aesthetic desires, is delivered on time and within budget.

We put our team’s combined 200-plus years of experience to work for every client. We are experts in management, design, costing and cost control, technology, quality control, marketing, finance, on-site supervision and safety. Together, we take a common sense approach to construction, analyzing alternatives and weighing future needs to determine the best construction solutions for a client’s particular needs.

In addition, our knowledge of the Central Kentucky region makes our approach even more successful. We know the regional economy, local codes, regulations and officials, as well as the most capable and talented subcontractors in the area. We also have an unmatched understanding of the most effective construction methods for this region.
