Our Strong Foundation
One of the oldest companies in the Elizabethtown area, Jenkins-Essex is a fourth-generation family owned and managed business dating back to 1904. That’s when Neff Jenkins and William Essex, whose heirs later sold their interests to the Jenkins family, founded the company as a lumber mill located in downtown Elizabethtown. They soon expanded their offerings, not only opening a full building supply story, but also building homes.
In those early days, Jenkins-Essex quickly gained a reputation for integrity, hard work and knowledge – principles our company leadership and employees have proudly upheld for more than a century.
It was in the 1960s that Jenkins-Essex started growing its commercial and industrial business. Since then, we’ve managed the construction of many of the region’s landmark buildings. In fact, in our home county, Hardin County, it would be difficult to find a resident who has not crossed the threshold of a Jenkins-Essex building.
Through the generations, our purpose has always been to build a superior product at a fair price. After more than 100 years, we consider it tradition.
